WebTree is led by Max Levitskiy. It brings together product development, software architecture, and a long-running interest in how the rules of a system shape what people do within it.
Today, the first priority is MakeLocal: getting a practical production service into use and learning from real customers and Makers. 0CAD and the shared development tools connect to that work.
How the focus evolved
WebTree began with broad questions about value, incentives, and governance. Mentoring became an early attempt to make those questions concrete: could mentors benefit from the longer-term success of the people they helped?
That history remains part of the work. The current strategy puts MakeLocal first and uses practical products to investigate the larger mission.
One mission, distinct responsibilities
WebTree is the umbrella name for the mission and its projects. A project, its legal operator, its owners, and its relationship to WebTree are different things and should be identified clearly.
The longer-term network model allows independent projects to cooperate through explicit agreements while retaining their own organization and responsibilities.
Making the work sustainable
The products need to create ordinary value for customers and enough revenue to support their continued operation. Shared tools may later support paid hosting, integrations, support, or enterprise services.
The research remains a long-term undertaking. Its direction should be informed by what the projects actually teach us.
